The 1.0 player cap is 50. A “fast level” route that ignores Shroud Roots leaves skill points on the ground, because roots are not experience.

The caps
Player level 50. Equipment 55 after a full upgrade. Gem caps depend on which Gem Forge you use, topping out at 41–50 in Veilwater Basin. Flame level 11 is the shroud-pushing level, separate from your character level.
What actually speeds the build
Kill and quest in the highest region you can survive, then detour for every Shroud Root and Elixir Well on the way. There are 19 Elixir Wells. 1.0 added 12 roots in Cinder’s Cradle alone. Respeccing a bad early tree costs 1 Rune per point at the altar. The launch reset was free.

What is the max level?
50 for the player, from the 1.0 changelog. Gear goes to 55.
Do skill points stop at 50?
Levels stop. Roots and wells still add points, and 1.0 added more roots.
